Contador confirms victory as The Di Meco's win Fantasy Giro! |
The final scores are now in after a supplemental update to correct several errors in the end-of-tour points allocation.
Congratulations to the Di Meco's, directed by Mignard of France, as the winning team in the 2011 Velogames Fantasy Giro d'Italia.
The rider selections were impressive, with all top five overall finishers included and also two of the early standout riders Christophe Le Mevel and Roberto Ferrari.
In the real event, Alberto Contador dominated the mountain stages and seemed at least one class above his opponents, although he must now fight off a doping accusation that has undoubtedly cast a question-mark over the result.
Thanks for playing, and check back in future days for the next Velogames event - I will aim to slot in an extra game between now and the Fantasy Tour de France, which should itself go live towards the end of June.

Fantasy Giro d'Italia Information |
The first Velogames Fantasy Cycling Grand Tour of 2011 gets underway with the Fantasy Giro d'Italia, starting on Saturday 7th May with a team time trial through the streets of Torino.
The Giro 2011 sees Alberto Contador return to the scene of his 2008 victory, looking to add to his bulging list of Grand Tour titles.
But a host of Italians remain wear to take the famous pink jersey and the Spaniard's route to victory is a challenging one, with more mountain stages than seemingly ever before.
Vincenzo Nibali, pride of the South, will be on home roads as the race tackles Mount Etna, while Michele Scarponi will also enjoy home support during the long trek up the eastern coast region.
Old favourite Stefano Garzelli will aim to show there is still strength in his experienced legs, as he did last year with an awesome mountain time trial win.
And the rivals of Contador do not stop with home-grown heroes: Denis Menchov returns for another tilt at the Maglia Rosa to go with his victory two years ago, and Carlos Sastre comes to the race to test himself on the harsh slopes of the Alpi and Dolomiti.
Velogames will follow all these stars - and their watercarriers - on the three week trek to Milan.
As a Fantasy Cycling directeur sportif, you must select your squad of nine riders to do battle on the mountains roads and city finishes.
Entries are now open, so check out the Rules and Scoring System, and then use the Enter NOw button to select your squad.
With a new-look site, more efficient update process, the addition of a custom team jersey image and the return of old favourites like the ever-popular mini leagues, the first Fantasy Grand Tour of 2011 should be a vintage edition.
I look forward to seeing your team on the road !
