Velogames Fantasy Cycling

Scoring Points

Points are allocated to riders based on their real-life performance in each event.

Points are awarded in three areas: Finishing Positions, Assists and Breakaways.

There are two different race categories, based on the relative importance of each event, for which a different amount of points are awarded.

Race Category One includes the five major classics of Spring, being Milan - San Remo, Ronde van Vlaanderen, Paris - Roubaix, Amstel Gold Race and Liege - Bastogne - Liege.

Race Category Two includes the six remaining races on the schedule, being E3 Harelbeke, Dwars door Vlaanderen, Gent - Wevelgem, Scheldeprijs, De Brabantse Pijl and La Fleche Wallonne.

The points awarded in each scoring area are shown in the sections below.

Please note that the points schedule was changed on Friday 16th March, with points for each category being increased by 500%. This tweak was needed to ensure the Fantasy Spring Classics game remains an important part of the Velogames season leaderboard. The relative points differences between each category has not changed (ie all points were increased by a factor of 5), so no late changes in team selection strategy will be required.

Finishing Positions

Points for Finishing Positions make up the major amount of points available, and are awarded to the top 20 classified finishers in each Category One race and the top 16 classified finishers in each Category Two race, using the following scoring table.

Assists (Team Mate Points)

Points for Assists are awarded to the real-life team-mates of riders who finish in the top three, to recognise the efforts that go into putting a team's rider into a winning position.

Assist points are awarded as follows:

PositionRace Category OneRace Category Two
Team Mate 1st3015
Team Mate 2nd2010
Team Mate 3rd105

In order to score assist points, a rider must start the race - they do not have to complete the course.

Note that riders who finish in the top three do not score assist points for their own finishing position.

Breakaway Points

Points for Breakaways are awarded to the riders who animate the race in its early stages and also during the crunch moments leading up the the finale.

There are four nominated Breakaway Points Zones during each event, where the riders in the leading group on the road all score points based on the following table:

PositionRace Category OneRace Category Two
In Lead Group at Breakway Points Zone 13015
In Lead Group at Breakway Points Zone 23015
In Lead Group at Breakway Points Zone 33015
In Lead Group at Breakway Points Zone 43015

The first Breakaway Points Zone is generally based around half-distance, while the remaining Breakaway Points Zone are located in the famous areas where the race is usually decided.

Breakaway Points Zones will be published in good time before the deadline for each event, based confirmed race routes.

For the purposes of points scoring, a "leading group" of riders is a group of 20 riders or less, with a gap of more than five seconds to the next rider or group of riders on the road.

Velogames will review video footage and race reports to ensure an accurate distribution of Breakaway Points, but in all cases the decision of Velogames is final.
