Magnus Cort Nielsen was a regular feature in the breakaway across the first week of the Tour, with the popular Dane taking the Polka Dot jersey on home roads - defending his lead in the King of the Mountains classification all the way through to Stage 8 of the race. Cort went on a total of five breakaway expeditions throughout the Tour, including his stage-winning escape to Megève on Stage 10. He also featured in three breaks at the Giro. In total, this netted him 160 points to take over the title of Grand Tour Breakaway Rider of the Year 2022, from 2021 recipient Simon Pellaud.
